This past weekend I had the privilege of working with and styling a shoot for designer, Michelle Hebert from Los Angles, California. Her designs are elegant and timeless, Hebert intertwines art and fashion that creates captivating designs for sophisticated women. At a very young age she pursued art, and within this pursuit she found her love for apparel design seeing people opposed to paper as a canvas. One thing she has never forgotten since her childhood was a statement by her father Achille C. Hébert II, “never give up your art”. By listening to his advice, Hebert’s designs to date have been worn by several entertainers such as Kelli Berglund of Disney Channel’s Lab Rats, Tracy Hutson from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and the 19th cycle winner of Americas Next Top Model Laura James. They have also walked down the red carpet at award ceremonies such as the 55th Annual Grammy Awards and the 2013 BET Awards. Within these next few months keep your eyes open for new work, new trials, new triumphs, and most excitingly an unreleased campaign. Below is a picture of Michelle Hebert at one of her shoots wearing a piece she designed and looking stunning and elegant as ever!

Hebert’s designs inspired me to style a bright colorful landscape on a tropical island. It took a couple weeks for me to find the perfect place to shoot these looks but after various trips around Arizona I found just the place! I collaborated with makeup artist Janae Shields, my amazing husband Mat Tondreau as my photographer and the beautiful and talented Kimberly Lopez as my model. Below are Michelle Hebert’s designs with a tropical twist. Enjoy!

Crop tops, bra tops, bandeau tops and the bralette top inspired me to put this look together! I truly never thought that I could pull off a crop top because I am only 5″1 and my torso is about 6 inches long but I think I did ok:) This is a fun look that I would wear out to dinner or a night out with the girls! Since I work in a office during the day I probably wouldn’t wear the crop top but would switch it out with a silk white button up.

Happy Wednesday! Below is another amazing blog post by my Fashion-Guest Blogger Christine! We have all had those days where we look in our jam-packed closet and say…”I don’t have anything to wear,” or “nothing fits me right.” Well this is exactly what happend to Christine, so she decided to write about it to help everyone out there that has the same problem! 🙂

Last weekend was one of those nothing fits me, nothing feels cute kind of weekends so I busted out the tried and true t-shirt and jeans, my ‘go-to’ casual outfit.

Selling real estate means lots of driving, standing, walking, crouching (for lockboxes) and sometimes scaling a wall. (I’ve done that twice now) It means walking through dirt, gravel, being in homes with no AC and sometimes digging up pavers to reset them to pass an FHA home inspection (I’ve done that, luckily only once).

When I have those nothing fits me, nothing feels cute kind of days when I have to meet clients I have a few ‘go-to’ styles that always do the trick… and I apparently have a ‘go-to’ color too. Blue, who knew?

Left to right//
\\Button up and denim. I like my button ups loose and I typically tuck in the front to elongate my little shrimp legs. Jeans: Express Button up: H&M Shoes: Nine West

\\Fit & Flare. Anthropologie has this style down to a science, I can walk in grab any fit and flare in my size and I know it will always fit perfectly and ALWAYS makes me feel super cute, especially for my body type. Anything cinched at the waist and with a bit of flare makes me less concerned about my Sir Mix-a-Lot lovin’ backside. I’ve made a few Fit & Flare dresses myself, both fitted with a zipper or with an elastic waist, I’m working on perfecting it so I don’t go completely broke thanks to Anthro. Blue Dress: Anthropologie. Heels: Express

\\Black Peplum. Again, cinched and flared, peplum makes me feel girly and cute. I have a difficult time wearing pencil skirts, they always shift upwards as I walk and I have tried MANY sizes and styles…nothing seems to want to stay put. That’s what I love about this dress, I get to have the look of a pencil skirt without it riding up and the peplum flare grazes that bit of my bum that I feel needs to be hidden, at least when I’m with clients. Black Peplum dress: Anthropologie Black Heels: Aldo

\\Circle skirt and loose fitting top. Like the Fit and Flare dress, a circle skirt is something I can toss on and it instantly lifts my spirits, but you have to be careful because depending on the weather, a gust of wind can really lift your skirt! Blue Skirt: Target Top: Ann Taylor LOFT Shoes: Nine West

\\Button up and denim, take 2. This look I straight up stole from the Duchess of Cambridge. I saw her wearing a similar outfit a couple of years ago and I still wear this look all the time. Jeans: Express Button Up: Old Navy Shoes: Express

Today is the first post from Fashion-Guest Blogger Christine with My Work Wardrobe! So I hope you enjoy and stay tuned for a giveaway later in the week!

Christine with Work My Wardrobe:

I typically like to sew an outfit about an hour to 30 minutes before I’m supposed to walk out the door to meet someone and it was no different when I made the first scarf into a little Kimono…the worst part was the fabric, it frayed pretty easily, but with the right fabric I’m sure this already easy to do project would be even easier. Case in point-The second Kaftan style cover up. Awesome fabric, so easy to work with…Both equally as cute!!

I picked up the scarf at a flea market in Los Angeles, the Kaftan type fabric was purchased by a vendor on the beach in Mexico. Both were screaming to be turned into cute cover-ups.

PS. I work pretty free form, half the time figuring it out as I go along…so hopefully this makes sense.

When I was a kid the only thing I ever wanted to do was play Barbies, I could play with them for hours on end. At times my mom would check on me because she wouldn’t hear a peep out of my room and was worried…..and there I was playing with my dolls in their pink mansion and pink corvette. Little did I know at the time, Barbie was as unrealistic as a pink unicorn. 🙂

1990-Barbie-Magical-Mansion-jpg_034207

Today I stumbled across an article by the Huffington Post, “Barbie’s Proportions On A Real Woman Are Mildly Terrifying.” The picture below explains it all.

AzgRD7OCcAA4eN5.png-large

This is a picture of an average women in the United States and in black, is an outline of a Mattel Barbie Doll. This is an astonishing picture. If this outline was the size of a person; they would not have any room to hold any vital organs, and their skinny ankles and child-size feet would make it necessary to walk on all fours.

Illustrator Nickolay Lamm put together a Barbie, based on what she would look like if she had normal measurements. In comparison, when scaled up to human size, Barbie dolls would have unhealthy measurements of an 18″ waist, 33″ hips and a 36″ bust compared with the typical 19-year-old girl’s 31″ waist, 33″ hips and a 32″ bust.

Lamm said: “My last Barbie project got a lot of criticism because Barbie is a toy and people argued that a toy can’t do any harm.” Lamm is referring to a project he undertook after a picture of Barbie without make-up went viral, where he mocked up pictures of other dolls to show what they would look like without make-up.
